Current Mood:

It was haves vs. have-nots in Katrina evacuation
"MSNBC: Can we expect that to be the overriding story on "Meet the Press" this Sunday?
Russert: It has to be. We are losing an American city. It’s historic. Some would even say biblical in its proportions"
What Russert says in this article pretty much sums up how I feel. This is so devestating, so depressing. It is still hard for me to comprehend that this disaster is here in the USofA and not in some distant 3rd world country.

NEW ORLEANS - Four days after Hurricane Katrina blasted through, corpses continued to rot along sidewalks and thousands remained stranded — crying for food, water and a way out of this devastated city.
Lt. Gen. Steven Blum of the National Guard said 7,000 more National Guardsmen arriving in Louisiana on Friday would help restore order in New Orleans, where armed robberies, rapes and assaults have been reported. He said half of them had just returned from overseas and are “highly proficient in the use of lethal force.” He pledged to “put down” the violence “in a quick and efficient manner.”
“They have M-16s and they’re locked and loaded,” Gov. Kathleen Blanco said earlier. “These troops know how to shoot and kill, and they are more than willing to do so, and I expect they will.”
(aren't we supposed to save the refugees not kill em? Don't people realize that they are upset because of 101 things that have happened to them? Loss of family? Loss of home? Loss of EVERYTHING? Put yourself in their shoes people! How would you react when you have nothing left?)

An old man in a chaise lounge lay dead in a grassy median as hungry babies wailed around him Thursday. Around the corner, an elderly woman lay dead in her wheelchair, covered up by a blanket, and another body lay beside her wrapped in a sheet.
That, that is just heart-wrenching.
